Open House for the HolidaysBoys Town Georgia opened their hearts and their home for the holidays Dec. 16 with a Holiday Open House. With Christmas trimmings decking the halls, guests were treated to songs, poems and dances performed by the girls living in the shelter. More than 60 friends and family members came to support them. Read a poem written by one of the Boys Town youth. “It was fulfilling to see so much support sitting in one room,” said Sonja Tobler, Site Director for Boys Town Georgia. “You could really feel the love for the children who have come to us for help.” Santa even took time from his busy holiday schedule to see the girls. The event included a visit by Father Steven Boes, Boys Town Executive Director, John Gillin, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Jerry Davis, Associate Executive Director of Boys Town USA, who presented Tobler with a five-year award for her time and efforts serving abused, abandoned and neglected children. Youth Care Workers Cynthia Franklin and Cary Durden also received five-year awards for their years of service. Father Boes thanked all the workers for their hard work and dedication to the mission of helping America’s children and families. What Christmas Means to Me Christmas is that special time of year you spend with family and friends. Of course, in the eyes of a child, Christmas is all about getting presents! But, as you grow older, you begin to realize that it’s much more than that... What Christmas means to me is plain and simple: spending time with the ones we love, being in their arms and spending precious quality-time. A lot of times, we forget to say even the simplest things like “I love you” to our family. Since I’ve been here at Boys Town, I’ve learned to appreciate my family more. I took spending time with them very much for granted... Boys Town is a great place! I love the entire staff: each and every one of them! And my teachers are amazing people, too. I really get the feeling that everyone in here sincerely wants to help me... Boys Town Georgia, Decatur, GA |
